Paul Schreiner, Mixed Martial Arts Instructor
Paul Schreiner was awarded the Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Claudio Franca after many years of dedicated training. In addition to training here in Santa Cruz with Claudio and Garth, Paul has been traveling to Brazil for training since 2001 where he has studied with many of the best jiu jitsu fighters in the world such as Roberto “Gordo” Correira, Rillion Gracie, Marcio Feitosa, Joao ‘Sal’ Rangel and Bruno Fernandez. Paul has medaled at the World Championships (Mundials) IN BRAZIL as a brown belt, losing a close decision in the semi-finals to Sergio Moraes. Paul continues to train regularly with top fighters such as Marcelo Garcia, Dave Camarillo, Jake Shields and Luke Stewart.
A true student of the game, Paul remains committed to the process of learning to continue his growth as both instructor and competitor. Recently some of Paul’s coaching efforts have come to light with the success of his students in both jiu jitsu tournaments and mixed martial arts including Cung Le’s stunning victory over Frank Shamrock. As a competitor, Paul is a four-time US Open gold medalist (middleweight and absolute), Copa Pacifica champion, Gracie Open champion, United Gracie champion (middleweight and absolute).
