Preparing for the American Cup this weekend…
First, check out the new Kids section. It’s just like this but for the kids class. Also, please, join us on facebook if you haven’t already done so. It’s fun. It’s facebook.
Tonight we covered some techniques geared to competition since the American Cup is this weekend. Garth Taylor took the class through setting up the takedown, opening your opponent’s full guard and some basic strategy for points like really working for the submision or the pass to get an advantage. However, that being said, I thought I would take this opportunity to show Desmond suffering under Garth’s top game. I do this with love for Desmond but also pure envy of Desmond’s game (he’s the guy that usually makes everyone else feel like it’s their first day of training).
Not so bad, yet, as Desmond keeps the distance with Garth.

Wow. Garth is really fast at taking the back.

Desmond isn’t in too bad a position as long as Garth doesn’t get his arm in the far side.

Uh oh.

Garth gets to half-guard.

And side mount. Being on the receiving end of Garth’s side mount is no fun.

Here’s Desmond getting some payback on John.

To be fair, in the last picture I still have half guard (a really bad one).
